Cavite, just an hour or two away from the city, has a budding local agritourism scene that boasts a number of popular must-visit farm resorts. Aside from reconnecting guests to the agricultural way of life, agritourism is boosting local economies and raising awareness on agriculture, from the way food is planted and harvested to how farm animals are raised. Here are five agritourism spots from the South that offer an immersive experience.
TEOFELY NATURE FARMS
Champions of organic farming, Teofely Nature Farm is located on the outskirts of Silang. Its 6,600 square meters of land is dedicated to rearing its Philippine Native Pigs and wide variety of vegetables. Not only can you pick vegetables and feed their native pigs at the farm—you can also learn a thing or two at their TESDA accredited farm school.
Part of Tagaytay’s well-known Nurture Wellness Village, Nurture Farmacy takes guests on an educational tour through their organic farm that grows an array of vegetables, fruits, and medicinal plants. As a wellness establishment, Nurture Farmacy focuses on the health benefits of flora, going into detail about the ailments and organs that certain plants can heal.
TERRA VERDE ECOFARM AND RESORT
Situated in Marogondon, Terra Verde Ecofarm and Resort gives guests the full farm life experience, complete with feeding chickens in the morning and tending to the farm for the rest of the day. An opportunity to connect with both nature and agricultural practices, the resort is a true getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.
PREZIOSA BOTANIC PARK AND FARM RESORT
Preziosa Botanic Park and Farm Resort began as a simply crop cultivation site in Alfonso, yet it’s grown to be the popular farm resort destination it is today. Aside from its various leisure activities and facilities, Preziosa has stayed true to its agricultural roots, boasting a vegetable farm that grows bell peppers, eggplants, watermelons, peanuts, sayote, gabi, ube, cassava, dragon fruit, and more.
Contrary to popular opinion, the farm life is hardly boring, or at least not at Gratchi’s Getaway. The Tagaytay farm resort has a number of activities for guests to engage in, such as an obstacle course, educational farming and planting tours, and animal feeding. The resort also acts as a sanctuary for various farm animals, such as ostriches, turkeys, chickens, and goats.
Aside from offering a memorable experience, these farm resorts are gradually introducing guests to agriculture and the role the Filipino farmer plays in putting food on all of our plates.
