The Department of Trade and Industry has recognized food manufacturer Universal Robina Corp. (URC) as the country’s top exporter for the processed food and beverage sector. The agency selected URC during the National Export Congress held in the first week of December. The recognition was based on 2019 data from the Philippine Statistics Authority that showed the value of URC’s export transactions.

The company said its export transactions reached approximately $30 million in 2019. URC’s vice president for global exports and frontier markets Brian Go notes that revenue among exporters is still advancing despite the pandemic’s effect on local and global trade

URC products such as Jack n’ Jill snacks, Great Taste instant coffee and C2 ready-to-drink tea, are being shipped to 38 countries through its exports group. In 2019, the company created a global exports business unit that manages the distribution of URC Philippines and URC International-sourced products.

This business unit is composed of the food manufacturer’s regional sales team and other export departments, shipping URC products to areas in North America, Europe, Africa, North Asia, the Middle East, Indian Ocean Islands and Oceania and the Pacific Islands.

URC posted a six percent increase in its attributable net income totalling P1.97 billion in the third quarter due to lower debt payments and higher operating income.
